The purpose of this research study is to learn about the effects, safety, and tolerability of a study medicine in adults with type 2 diabetes who are overweight or have obesity and may have other weight-related health problems.
Participants will receive either the study medicine or a placebo. A placebo looks like the study medicine but does not contain any medicine. Both are given once a week as an injection under the skin. Participants will start with a dose that is slowly increased over time, which can take up to about 20 weeks.
Participants will have blood tests, including fasting blood draws (after not eating or drinking for at least 8 hours). Participants will also check their blood sugar at home using a study-provided glucose meter several times a day for 3 days in a row before certain scheduled visits. Participants will record information using an electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePRO) device.
Who can participate:
Adults with type 2 diabetes and overweight or obesity may be able to participate if they:
- Are age 18 or older and have had type 2 diabetes for at least about 6 months
- Have a stable body weight and a body mass index (BMI) of 27 or higher
- Are taking a stable daily dose of metformin and have not been using other diabetes medicines (including insulin) for the past few months
- Are willing to do fasting blood draws and home blood sugar checks as required, and to enter information using an ePRO device
Study timeline and visits:
Study treatment lasts about 36 weeks, with dose increases that may take up to about 20 weeks.
