Brief description of study

Adult healthy volunteers in the age group of 18-40 years, both male and female, and willing to participate in MRI at the University of Pennsylvania, department of radiology facilities

Mild exercise with calf muscle briefly is required, and MRI will be performed before and after exercise.

Detailed description of study

The research study is being conducted to determine the changes in skeletal muscle compounds before and after exercise. You do not need to take any medications for the purpose of this study. Adult volunteers (age 18-40 years) are eligible and your participation may benefit future research in different muscle disease conditions. You will have to attend to one MRI session, This would be for 60-80 minutes. No drugs are injected and no oral pills will be given to the subjects. This is a research study, and not a clinical trial to test any medicines.

The subjects will be asked to perform mild exercise by pushing a pedal and this measures the changes in muscle metabolites, and the metabolic changes are determined by MRI methods. The subjects will be compensated for their participation in the study.

Participants will complete a telephone screening to assess eligibility, and in-person MRI visit at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Department of Radiology facilities.

Trained personnel will perform different activities associated with contacting the subjects, screening, consenting and performing the MRI procedures at 7T. The personnel listed are experienced in completing different tasks associated with this study. Adequate time has been planned for recruiting the healthy volunteers and also scheduling the MRI at 7T and completing the MRI procedures described.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

Conditions: Healthy adults,18-40 years
Age: 18 years - 40 years
Gender: All

Male and female healthy volunteers, without chronic health conditions, ages 18 to 40 years, and recruited to achieve an overall similar distribution of sex and age. All participants will be screened and excluded if they have contraindications to MRI, and/or use of other investigational agents .

Subjects with diverse ethnic and racial background will be considered. Females who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant will be excluded

Children Pregnant women, or planning to become pregnant Prisoners Neonates are not involved Subjects with any contraindications for MRI, and claustrophobic
