Brief description of study

The purpose of this study is to determine if children diagnosed with oral thrush in the first year of their life are at higher risk of developing dental caries.

Detailed description of study

  • Participating children aged 6-15 months old must be in good general health without any systemic medical conditions or orofacial deformity.
  • The study will recruit 30 children with a history of oral thrush and 30 children without a history of oral thrush.
  • If your child qualifies for this study, he/she will be examined every six (6) months for two (2) years. 
  • The study examiner will evaluate the oral health status of your child and collect brush swab samples from your child's teeth/mouth at each visit. 
  • Participants who have dental caries found on the exam will be referred for further oral care.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: dental,Oral thrush,healthy infants,dental caries
  • Age: 1 years - 1 years
  • Gender: All

Eligible children will be aged 6-15-month-old, systemically healthy, without any orofacial abnormalities, and who have not taken systemic antimicrobial therapy (within 30 days of the baseline visit) and/or topical/oral antibiotic use (within 7 days of baseline visit). 30 participants have a history of oral thrush and 30 have no history of oral thrush.
