Brief description of study

We propose a study in a hospital setting with high rates of multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs) and healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), the intensive care unit (ICU), to examine the impact of patient exposures on the environmental microbiome and transmission of MDROs to the environment. This study will involve: a) longitudinal sampling of environmental high-touch objects (HTOs) and anatomic sites on the bodies of enrolled study subjects with recent MDRO infection or colonization and b) comprehensive capture of longitudinal clinical and environmental data, including antibiotic use, environmental cleaning and disinfection methods, and medical device use.
