Adults 65 and older are more likely to have significant injuries from minor things like falls. They can have problems regaining strength due to sarcopenia (loss of muscle tissue as part of natural aging process). Nicotinamide riboside/pterstilbene (Basis) is commercially available nutraceutical. This randomized, double blind placebo controlled trial will investigate the impact of Basis on the functional recovery of elderly patients (65 years or older) admitted to the trauma service post-injury. Basis (or placebo) will be taken orally for 90 days. Bioactivity will be tracked daily. Functional, cognitive, and biochemical assays will be assessed at 24 hrs, discharge, 6 weeks, and then at 3 months post injury. See Protocol Section 4.1 for Inclusion and Exclusion Criteria
