Brief description of study
Have you experienced a traumatic event that affected your life significantly?
You may be eligible to participate in a study conducted by the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety at the University of Pennsylvania.
Detailed description of study
Participation in this study requires 12 visits over six weeks. Participants will undergo 6 therapy sessions. In addition, they will go through an emotional learning and memory task before and after therapy. Participants will undergo a fear conditioning procedure that involves receiving an annoying but not painful, half-second electric current applied to the fingers. This procedure will be conducted during two consecutive days. The second day will be conducted in an fMRI scanner.
Participants will be paid up to $480 for their time. Blood samples will be gathered at different time points of the study. You may be asked to take a drug orally (estrogen pill) to assess the effects of this drug on therapy.
