MRI and Biological Markers of Acute E-Cigarette Exposure in Smokers and Vapers

This research study is being conducted to examine the effects of electronic cigarette aerosol, in the presence and absence of nicotine, on the endothelium, a layer of cells that act as a protective barrier and play an important part in controlling the flow of blood around the body.

Detailed Description

Smokers and vapers: This group will complete three study visits. During each visit blood is drawn twice, an MRI is performed twice, and a smoking challenge is completed. No more than 30, and no fewer than 3 days can pass between each visit. A parking voucher and monetary compensation will be provided for each visit ($150 for every visit completed, $450 in total).

Nonsmokers: This group will complete one study visit during which blood is drawn once, one MRI is performed, and a hematocrit measurement is taken. A parking voucher and monetary compensation will be provided ($100 for one visit).
