Brief description of study
Some research studies have shown that morning-after pills containing LNG do not work as well in preventing pregnancy for women who weigh more than 80kg (176 pounds) and that doubling the dose of LNG would offer greater protection against pregnancy for these women.
This study is being done to test which morning-after pill works best at preventing pregnancy for women who weigh > 80kg: a dose of UPA, a single dose of LNG or two doses of LNG.
A multi-center randomized study of the efficacy of ulipristal acetate (UPA) 30 mg levonorgestrel (LNG) 1.5 mg and LNG 3.0 mg for emergency contraception (EC) in women with weight 80 kg
The purpose of this study is to find out:
•Which morning-after pill is most effective at preventing pregnancy for women who weigh more than 80kg (176 pounds) if taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.
•If the side effects from two doses of LNG are different from the side effects of other emergency contraceptives.
•If the side-effects from two doses of LNG are more serious than the side-effects from other emergency contraceptives.
