Brief description of study
The purpose of this study is to determine if a particular Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) called Diffusion Weighted (dwMRI)) will detect changes in your tumor before and during treatment with chemotherapy and radiation for esophageal cancer. We used the dwMRI because it has been used in other types of cancers to predict response to treatment. By performing dwMRIs, we are hoping we will be able to identify changes in the treatment area and predict how well the tumor changed in response to treatment.
We also want to collect and examine blood samples from patients with esophageal cancer to look at the levels of substances called circulating tumor cells(CTCs) and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA). These substances have been associated with the presence of tumor cells in the body. We are interested in determining whether the amounts of these cells within the blood vary at different points in cancer treatment.
